Kiyam
A Cree word meaning 'everything is as it should be.' We believe that true education begins with place, honoring the relationships, stories, and histories that shape our world.

We start with place
Kiyam Consulting is honoured to have its offices located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Musqueam people.
In the spirit of Kiyam, meaning ‘everything is as it should be,’ we understand that being here is not simply about where we are located. It is about recognizing the relationships that make this place what it is, and the responsibilities that come with being welcomed onto these lands.
We honour Musqueam as the People of this place, and we recognize the enduring presence of Musqueam knowledge, language, culture, history, and relationships to these lands and waters.
Our work begins with place. We seek to listen before we act, to learn from the relationships around us, and to approach our work with respect, reciprocity, relevance, and responsibility. We are grateful for the opportunity to live, work, learn, and build relationships here, and we carry a responsibility to conduct our work in ways that honour the place that holds us.

Our Approach
- Kiyam is grounded in relationship.
We recognize that meaningful educational work does not happen in isolation. It emerges through relationships with people, place, knowledge, history, language, and community.
Our approach is guided by respect, reciprocity, relevance, and responsibility. These principles shape how we listen, how we work alongside others, and how we remain accountable to the relationships that make our work possible.
Respect | Reciprocity | Relevance | Responsibility
These principles guide how we listen, learn, work together, and remain accountable to the relationships that shape our work.
Our Work
Our work is grounded in relationship, respect, reciprocity, relevance, and responsibility. We listen first, honour the knowledge and relationships of place, and work alongside educators, organizations, and communities to create meaningful learning.

Place-Based Learning
Learning begins with place. We work alongside educators and communities to understand the stories, histories, languages, relationships, knowledge, and responsibilities that shape a particular place.

Curriculum Development
We create curriculum with people, not simply for them. Our work brings together curriculum knowledge, place, community, and Indigenous ways of knowing to create learning that is meaningful and relevant.

Indigenous Education & Indigenization
We support educational change that honours the distinct histories, knowledge systems, languages, and rights of Indigenous Peoples and Nations. This work begins with relationships and requires ongoing responsibility.

Professional Learning
We create spaces for educators to listen, reflect, learn, and engage in meaningful dialogue. Professional learning is grounded in relationship, lived experience, place, and responsibility to learners and communities.

Workshops & Keynotes
Our workshops and keynotes create opportunities to listen, question, share knowledge, and build understanding. Each gathering invites participants to consider their relationships, responsibilities, and connections to place.

Educational Consulting
We work alongside organizations to understand what is needed, build relationships, and develop approaches that are respectful, relevant, reciprocal, and responsive to the people and places involved.
